Hull to Scarborough

With one last look at the Hull Mud, we set off for Spurn Head.  So much for plans, or in this case planning - the weather did not conform with the forcast, and we got to Spurn Head in 25kts of onshore breeze at about 4pm, the buoys were not intended for the use of small fibreglass yachts and there was absolutely no way we could anchor so plan B was rapidly formulated , and we sailed on into the night to get the earlier high tide in  Scarborough.

Sunset - its freezing - I think we've come too far North!

It was a fantastic sail - a beautiful starry night, moonlight, no sandbanks, no ships and 15kts of breeze.  Great - cold, but great.

Arrived in Scarborough with about half an hour of tide left, and made for the Visitors Pontoon.

Sunrise - Scarborough

The highlights of Scarborough were the Yacht Club, located in a Lighthouse!  The light is still active, and the building houses the Bar and Race Office. Brilliant. The beer there was quit good as well.

View from the Light
Zilla was very taken with the Kittiwakes that seemed to nest everywhere, but just out of her reach!

Dinner?

I was very taken by the fact that they actually did have donkey rides on the beach and a pirate ship you could pay £4 for a trip round the bay on!

Once we had walked up to the castle, around the headland to the North Bay, and along the coast past the once magnificent Spa and Grand Hotel we felt the delights of Scarborough had been experienced for long enough so we decided to set off for Whitby the following day.

Worst Planning Decision So Far:  Even considering for a moment that we could stop for a rest at Spurn Head in a gale.

Best Planning Decision So Far:  The Boom Tent!!
